hasn't got a thing to wear

three bags now available at cut + paste! yaaay!

i just fininshed reading uniforms: why we are what we wear, by paul fussell.

The image “http://images.amazon.com/images/P/0618067469.01._AA240_SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

i would definately reccomend this book to anyone interested in fashion, costume history, or even your ups man! there was lots of information about military uniforms, but it was broken up by amazing chapters on 'uniforms' for religion, athletes, academia, doctors/nurses, and even a chapter on the concept of denim as a uniform. my only complaint was there were no pictures, which is especially important when learning about textiles. but fussell paints a pretty picture of the uniforms, so you often forget there are no pictures or diagrams.

does anyone else have any favorites for costume history books?

Hi,
I found your website from a link at frecklewonder.com. I like your bags, they are very cute! :) I live in Johnson City, TN so you are not too far from me... oh yeah, that book that you recomended looks really interesting. You could say that i'm a little obsessed with costume history and fashion. I have been designing bags for years but i'm also a painting/english major at East Tennessee State Univ. For a while ive been really interested in the relationship between humans and costume, and have been exploring those kindsa things in my paintings.

Check out:
"Seeing Through Clothes" and "Fabric of Vision" both by Anne Hollander.. she rocks! "Fruits" by Shoichi Aoki and "The Eternal Masquerade" by Dennis H. Bradley

thanks ericka! you should definately check out 'uniforms' then. i am going to be getting my master's in museum studies, and i am very interested in art history as well as costume history and material culture studies. i used to feel a bit weird about wanting to dedicate my life to learning and talking about clothes, but the more i learn and read, the more i understand the importance of clothing and its connections and correlations to human history. so thanks for the recommendations! i'll be sure to check those out.

and you make bags? i went to your site but couldn't get very much to come up.
