over and out.
oh-so-sorry for the lack of posts! things have been kooky-crazy as i prepare to depart for the UK tomorrow. phew. i can't believe the day has finally come. i have been preparing for my adventure for over a year and a half now. and everything is just about ready. i'm just about ready to *believe* that this is all happening, but first i'll get to celebrate/mourn my leaving with a great last hurrah tonite.
*NOT driving and instead doing a lot of walking and taking the public transport. i really feel that my driving skills have substantially taken a turn for the worst over the past few months! so this couldn't come at a better time.
*going to topShop for the first time in five or so years; no more needing to lust after the website!
*posting lots of pics from my new (yes!) digiCam.
*and with posting lots of pics, i will be switching my journal over to LiveJournal. blogger has been giving me lots of problems, and i haven't been able to post Fotos in quite some time now. plus! so many people's journals that i read are over there, and now i won't feel so out of the loop! we will have a link to the LiveJournal account here on the flap site for all of you to keep up with my adventures.
as for the site, a few of the pages will be undergoing changes in the next little bit, as soon as i can get some new collages made. i will probably send out an email when this happens.
ok, now back to packing. it's tough squeezing your life for a year into two suitcases!
-----just a few things i'm looking forward to:------

this saturday i am having a yard sale with my friend danita, since we are both moving away! if you're in or around greensboro THIS saturday, september 10th, come out and see us at 701 n. green st (on the corner of fisher and green) from 7 am - 1pm. we'll have lots of vintage and thrifted goodies, and hopefully some treats for lucky shoppers.
wish you were here.
seeing people with their flap stuff about town or online in fotos keeps me inspired and always brightens my day. and i'd love to have fotos of all of you out there with a flap product for my gallery pages.
so...send 'em over my way. (info@flapbags.net)
also, if you are around greensboro/winston-salem, nc, this weekend, check out the silent art auction at the werehouse in winston to benefit victims of hurricane katrina. it's from 6-8 pm with live music at 7pm. i will be donating at least three pieces of flap clothing for the auction. you can also find more info here.
well. well. what.
well...long time no update.
things have been crazy as i try to set my packrat lifestyle aside and pack up a few belongings to take to the uk with me! it's tough! and i haven't really even started packing up my apartment because i like to have lots of knick-nacks around. so next week i'll probably take a deep breath and pack a lot up. i'm flying out on the 27th of september, and will arrive just in time for international student orientation. yay!
i am getting quite anxious about leaving greensboro, as this year would be my eighth year here. classes started back at uncg this week and oh how i have been longing to go out and get lots of school supplies and textbooks. i can't wait to get back to school and finish on up with everything.
as for flap stuff, i've gotten quite a few custom orders over this past week and will get those out as soon as i can. i am disappointed that the website has not been updated since the shop opened. but i've learned a lot in working with another person. hopefully while i am in england or when i return, i will take a website-making class, so that i can do everything myself or with little help from anyone else.
i won't be able to take my sewing machine with me, but i won't let that stop my crafty endeavors. i plan on doing lots of handiwork, including picking up knitting and crochet, and finally making some stuff out of stich 'n bitch. i've had lots of ideas for things and am looking forward to surrounding myself with new scenery and inspirations. i'm also pumped about wendy mullin's new sewing book! and have you seen the new built by wendy website? ummm...yeah. and i can't wait to see more fall stuff!
once i come back i plan on re-working a lot of the bags i have been making, particularly i want to create bags with more diversity and versatility in form. and i'm really drawn to worn, soft leather at this point in time, so that's an option too. i've had so many ideas for what i want to do, but i know that now is not the time, and i excited to know that i can come back to accessory making with a completely new and refined perspective.
i will be keeping the site and this journal up while i am away, hopefully updating with lots of photos and great stories!

i'll post more upon my return about the site and why everything is still looking the same as it did months ago! but for now, new flap bags are available at little paper planes. go check em out! and thanks to kelly for the great pics!

hasn't got a thing to wear
three bags now available at cut + paste! yaaay!
i just fininshed reading uniforms: why we are what we wear, by paul fussell.

i would definately reccomend this book to anyone interested in fashion, costume history, or even your ups man! there was lots of information about military uniforms, but it was broken up by amazing chapters on 'uniforms' for religion, athletes, academia, doctors/nurses, and even a chapter on the concept of denim as a uniform. my only complaint was there were no pictures, which is especially important when learning about textiles. but fussell paints a pretty picture of the uniforms, so you often forget there are no pictures or diagrams.
does anyone else have any favorites for costume history books?
